An egg on Dill, not quite ready to hatch

The first thing the caterpillar eats is the shell of its egg.

They are designed to look like bird poop as a disguise.


Sleeping. They usually eat at night.

Attached to Parsley and preparing to form chrysalis



Attached to side of  mesh enclosure.The chrysalis on dark colors are brown to blend.

The chrysalis on the green Parsley are green to blend. Amazing!


Just emerged. The blood needs to go from the abdomen to the wings.

The wings begin to expand and the abdomen decreases in size, becoming more elongated.
